i'd rather be a forest than a street

I went swing dancing last night. Christina's friend from high school, Bridget, came up and took us to this place in Towson that has dances every Friday night. Last night there was a live big band (that played a whole bunch of good songs: In the Mood; Sing, Sing, Sing; String of Pearls (!), Zoot Suit Riot; Jump, Jive, and Wail; Chatanooga Choo Choo and a whole lot more). It was this huge veteren's hall with the lights dimmed low and strings of Christmas lights still hung all along the walls. There were a ton of people, ranging from a little boy of about four who spent most of the night on his dad's shoulders, to an adorable older man of about 70 who danced with just about every girl in the place. He was my favorite, some of the moves he pulled were ridiculously cute, and he was wearing this pink-and-white striped shirt with glasses and had a thin tuft of white hair on his head. Hee. So cute.
We missed the beginner's lesson so two of Bridget's friends had to teach the basics to Chris and me. In addition to swing, I tried to cha cha, foxtrot, waltz, and meringue. The only one I could do at all was meringue, mostly because it's moving in a straight direction in whichever way the guy decides to go. :P By the end of it, I was doing alright at the actual swing dancing, or at least, I was having little trouble finding my way back to the beat when I lost it.
But it was so much fun that we've decided we need to go back more, and often. And get better. Swing dancing was one of the things Megan and I always wanted to do in high school, but there was no where to do it. I'm mad that this place has been around and so close the whole time I've been here, and I'm just finding out about it.
Today was mostly hanging around and watching movies. I went out with Chris and Mike and bought a new fleece blanket, cause it was only $7 and I can never have too many fleece blankets. We watched Shaun of the Dead and Napolean Dynomite. I only caught bits and pieces of Shaun of the Dead, cause I was making pizza, but it was pretty hilarious. I think when I get a chance I'll rent it and watch the whole thing. I'm not terribly sure how I felt about Napolean Dynomite. It had a lot of really great quotable lines, but it wasn't something I'd watch again and again.
So. Shower, reading, sleep. In that order. Possibly with another movie thrown in, depending on how tired I am.

Date: 2005-01-09 08:24 pm (UTC)you should definately rent Shaun of the Dead and watch the whole thing. Oddly, it's my mom's favorite movie, I've watched it several times with her, and still hilarious everytime.

Date: 2005-01-09 10:39 pm (UTC)I'm thinking I will watch Shaun of the Dead again, all the way through, cause it was funny and I'd like to see the whole thing. I'm not usually a zombie movie person, but the parts I saw were pretty great.
