My mom called and my grandfather is out of surgery and he's going to be okay and they are moving him to another room this evening, and hopefully everything's going to go just fine.

I got a care package from my uncle Jim with lots of food for the apartment. Yay for junk food.

I'm eating mac&cheese soon.

It's Friday!

I don't have crappy Advanced Comp. today.

And I'm listening to my (only) emo song! :)

please pardon my momentary snobbish tone when i say that the all american rejects are absolutely totally and completely not even close to being emo.

again, i apologize, but i had to clear that up. ;)

btw, your journal kicks ass. how'd you get this layout?

Well, I (obviously) don't know much about emo, so please forgive my mistake. ;) What constitues an emo song, anyway?

And thanks. LJ has a new system called S2, and one of the pre-made layouts is called Component, which is what this is. It may or may not be for paid users only, I'm really not sure. I got it right here (http://www.livejournal.com/customize). :)

what's constitutes an emo song? oh geez.

see here's the thing with emo. emo is going downhill the way punk did. you know how real "original" punk (even though i hate all these bands) is like....the sex pistols, the ramones, black flag, and all those old school NY and LA punk bands, etc? and how later came fugazi, the green days, the blink-182s and early-mid 90s stuff that you and i called punk in the beginning of our high school years? that was the second wave. well now punk is growing a third wave with all this shitty "mall punk" like a simple plan and good charlotte, etc.

well emo's originals were rites of spring, sunny day real estate (a personal fave of mine, rodeo jones is a song of their's), christie front drive.....leaving off where early jimmy eat world picked up, another fave, along with the appleseed cast, mineral, etc, when the genre still had a lot of genuine passion within it.

so it is here that we find the all american rejects, next to others like the juliana theory and the ataris forming the third wave of barely-emo emo that finally gets accepted by the mainstream by peeking its face out from the shadows of music that is "too sad" to sell. simply because i have a great love for the genres earlier days, i can't call them emo. maybe mall emo, but i don't think it's gotten quite that bad yet.

holy shit i sound like an arrogant asshole. i swear i'm not really like this. haha.

Okay, I think I get it. And here's the thing. I hate emo, which is why I'm almost ashamed of loving that All American Rejects song. But! You have shown me that I don't really hate emo, just the popular emo that's out now. I like what I've heard of sunny day real estate, and of course I like jimmy eat world. And you don't sound arrogant, I'm very defensive about my music, too. :)
