So, that was a good episode. I liked it anyway. Rambly and disjointed thoughts to follow.
I'm glad we finally got some Weevil this week, though I'm sad he's still relegated to only one scene. And I'm still not entirely clear on what this whole phone call was all about. This could be because I was so excited to just see him on screen I wasn't so much paying attention to what he was actually saying. I'm going to need to rewatch, methinks. ETA: So, upon rewatch, I'm still confused why the earring has anything to do with anything. I mean, Lamb said they found it at the last place Curly was seen, but I'm confused as to why they picked it up as evidence at all. It wasn't on Curly, just on the ground at a place he'd been. Why would they ever assume that's evidence? Also, Weevil doesn't so much answer Veronica's question about what happened to it, or why he was there. He sort of completely evades it, and she just lets that go. Also, as a side note, I am incredibly amused that leaders of motorcycle gangs do things as ordinary as paying cell phone bills. I suppose he's young and has a criminal record, though, so he's probably got a prepaid job, but still. Hee.
Great scene with Logan this week, for a couple of reasons. First, because he was biting without being overly obnoxious, and Veronica wasn't pulling that hurt crap she pulled last week. Second, I loved the little thing he did when he remembered that he did know where he was the night of the phone call. He could have easily shrugged it off and not said anything, but he didn't. It was almost as though for a brief second he forgot that he wasn’t supposed to be helping Veronica anymore. Subtle, but a nice touch. Also, a huge 09er party with the whole town present? Hmmm, where have I seen that before?
Along those lines, can I tell you how happy I am that Veronica is starting to realize how much she doesn't like her boyfriend? Duncan's being super avoid-o guy and Veronica's really starting to let her frustrations show. Maybe we'll actually get some confrontation on those Issues sometime soon. One can hope, right?
As for Alicia, well. So if the cop guy is actually Wallace's dad, he went crazy and Alicia left him while she was pregnant, met and married another man who actually raised Wallace, or he is the good guy and Alicia ran off for some undisclosed reason, right? I'd obviously prefer him to be the crazy one, but I somehow think it won't go down like that. :p I'm also wondering what all this has to do with anything else. I mean, duh, it'll effect Wallace and Keith and by extension Veronica, but what does it have to do with the overarching themes of the season?
Speaking of Wallace, though, his new girlfriend really isn't trying to win any points with the viewership, is she? I've been pretty indifferent to Jackie thus far, but she insulted my girl Veronica this week, and took a dig at the best pair of BFFs ever, and I'm not cool with that. I'm hoping Wallace won't be for long, either. Except...she's in the credits, isn't she? Grrrr.
One of the things I'm liking the best about this season so far is the other characters' autonomy. The fact that they have lives outside of Veronica's world, the fact that we see them on their own, in their own time, doing and hearing things that Veronica doesn't know about. It's nice, too, because Keith really does get some of the best lines on the show (special lady friend!), and we wouldn't necessarily always see that if we only got his interaction with Veronica. It's interesting to me, though, that we've seen Veronica-free storylines with Logan and Wallace, and not Duncan. He doesn't have a life outside of Veronica--or he didn't seem to have a life outside of Veronica. I'm wondering how this thing with visiting Meg is going to turn the tables on their relationship.
It's almost disturbing how much I missed seeing Veronica behind that desk. I'm glad she'll be back there again. I'm also wondering if maybe this thing with Alicia won't come back to bite Keith in the running for sheriff ass somehow. I feel like there's got to be something that keeps him from winning and keeps him at Mars Investigations. They've got to stay outcasts somehow, and plus, I don't think I would like the show as much if they ditched the Mars Investigations set. :p
Speaking of, however, I really liked the MotW, even if they spent a little too much time on the scene where Veronica tries to seduce Collin. The play between the mystery and Veronica's interest in/feelings for Duncan worked really well, I thought.
Also, also? Do you want to know why I am head over heels in love with this show? I'll offer proof when
_jems_ puts her caps up, but in the scene where Veronica's doing surveillance on that Collin guy, the hood of Veronica's car is most definitely a replacement. You can see where the paint is different from the rest of the car, where it had to be replaced because of a certain car accident Veronica was in some months ago. Seriously. LOVE.
ETA:

On a completely random note, the best bit of acting I've ever seen from Teddy Dunn was in this episode: "...I can burn a CD." That, my friends, was the first time Duncan's ever made me laugh out loud.
Now, since I did the smart thing and posted my own reactions first, I'm going to go read what everyone else thought. :)

Also, sorry about that phone call, I figured if nothing else it would cheer you up a little. :)
