So, that was a good episode. I liked it anyway. Rambly and disjointed thoughts to follow.

I'm glad we finally got some Weevil this week, though I'm sad he's still relegated to only one scene. And I'm still not entirely clear on what this whole phone call was all about. This could be because I was so excited to just see him on screen I wasn't so much paying attention to what he was actually saying. I'm going to need to rewatch, methinks. ETA: So, upon rewatch, I'm still confused why the earring has anything to do with anything. I mean, Lamb said they found it at the last place Curly was seen, but I'm confused as to why they picked it up as evidence at all. It wasn't on Curly, just on the ground at a place he'd been. Why would they ever assume that's evidence? Also, Weevil doesn't so much answer Veronica's question about what happened to it, or why he was there. He sort of completely evades it, and she just lets that go. Also, as a side note, I am incredibly amused that leaders of motorcycle gangs do things as ordinary as paying cell phone bills. I suppose he's young and has a criminal record, though, so he's probably got a prepaid job, but still. Hee.

Great scene with Logan this week, for a couple of reasons. First, because he was biting without being overly obnoxious, and Veronica wasn't pulling that hurt crap she pulled last week. Second, I loved the little thing he did when he remembered that he did know where he was the night of the phone call. He could have easily shrugged it off and not said anything, but he didn't. It was almost as though for a brief second he forgot that he wasn’t supposed to be helping Veronica anymore. Subtle, but a nice touch. Also, a huge 09er party with the whole town present? Hmmm, where have I seen that before?

Along those lines, can I tell you how happy I am that Veronica is starting to realize how much she doesn't like her boyfriend? Duncan's being super avoid-o guy and Veronica's really starting to let her frustrations show. Maybe we'll actually get some confrontation on those Issues sometime soon. One can hope, right?

As for Alicia, well. So if the cop guy is actually Wallace's dad, he went crazy and Alicia left him while she was pregnant, met and married another man who actually raised Wallace, or he is the good guy and Alicia ran off for some undisclosed reason, right? I'd obviously prefer him to be the crazy one, but I somehow think it won't go down like that. :p I'm also wondering what all this has to do with anything else. I mean, duh, it'll effect Wallace and Keith and by extension Veronica, but what does it have to do with the overarching themes of the season?

Speaking of Wallace, though, his new girlfriend really isn't trying to win any points with the viewership, is she? I've been pretty indifferent to Jackie thus far, but she insulted my girl Veronica this week, and took a dig at the best pair of BFFs ever, and I'm not cool with that. I'm hoping Wallace won't be for long, either. Except...she's in the credits, isn't she? Grrrr.

One of the things I'm liking the best about this season so far is the other characters' autonomy. The fact that they have lives outside of Veronica's world, the fact that we see them on their own, in their own time, doing and hearing things that Veronica doesn't know about. It's nice, too, because Keith really does get some of the best lines on the show (special lady friend!), and we wouldn't necessarily always see that if we only got his interaction with Veronica. It's interesting to me, though, that we've seen Veronica-free storylines with Logan and Wallace, and not Duncan. He doesn't have a life outside of Veronica--or he didn't seem to have a life outside of Veronica. I'm wondering how this thing with visiting Meg is going to turn the tables on their relationship.

It's almost disturbing how much I missed seeing Veronica behind that desk. I'm glad she'll be back there again. I'm also wondering if maybe this thing with Alicia won't come back to bite Keith in the running for sheriff ass somehow. I feel like there's got to be something that keeps him from winning and keeps him at Mars Investigations. They've got to stay outcasts somehow, and plus, I don't think I would like the show as much if they ditched the Mars Investigations set. :p

Speaking of, however, I really liked the MotW, even if they spent a little too much time on the scene where Veronica tries to seduce Collin. The play between the mystery and Veronica's interest in/feelings for Duncan worked really well, I thought.

Also, also? Do you want to know why I am head over heels in love with this show? I'll offer proof when [livejournal.com profile] _jems_ puts her caps up, but in the scene where Veronica's doing surveillance on that Collin guy, the hood of Veronica's car is most definitely a replacement. You can see where the paint is different from the rest of the car, where it had to be replaced because of a certain car accident Veronica was in some months ago. Seriously. LOVE.

On a completely random note, the best bit of acting I've ever seen from Teddy Dunn was in this episode: "...I can burn a CD." That, my friends, was the first time Duncan's ever made me laugh out loud.

Now, since I did the smart thing and posted my own reactions first, I'm going to go read what everyone else thought. :)

Reading this suddenly triggered a thought for me: I miss Veronica Voice Over!

Also? If that car thing is true I will cry tears of joy. The continuity on this show is hot!

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
There was some good voice over in this episode, too, but I can't remember any of it at the moment. :p

And it totally is true. I rewound the tape twice just to make sure. It was the first good shot of the whole car in sunlight, so you could really tell that it was a different panel. I love this show so much. :)

I added the picture. Because, you know, I'm just that anal. :p

OMG IT'S TRUE. I am so amazingly Rob's bitch!

My favorite part of the episodes is watching them yet again midway in between when it aired and when the new one is going to air. It makes me really figure out what I liked/disliked about the episode. That said, it was a great episode with a great storyline. I love how it goes from the scene with Keith yelling at VM telling her she can't handle doing PI work cause she's too young, etc. to the scene with him coming and sheepishly asking her for help. Though I must say Keith and VM's relationship has gotten much less quippy/fun and much more father/daughter hiding things from one another this season. I kinda hope it doesn't create a rift or anything. Also, what's gonna happen with Keith knowing what VM's doing with Duncan when he's not around? I still hold that the last scene left something to be desired as far as the episode goes. Big build up and a pretty anticlimactic ending. It's still gonna be a good season though, so the faith is back on that aspect:-P

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's not a lot of love for this episode, I'm finding. I dunno, it didn't inspire end-of-S1 glee in me or anything, but I was entertained.

Anyway, rifts seem to be what they're building to all around. Maybe this season won't be about Veronica being an outcast among her peers, but among the people she actually cares about.

Also, the ending didn't bother me, but I could see why it would bother you. :p

I started to rewatch the episode this morning, but i think i will just before i go to bed tonight.
i have been reading recaps and there are parts i remember, but some parts just went "swoosh" over my head.
Anyway, I'll rewatch and then post my reactions.
But I do remember being like OMG when that guy said he was Wallace's dad.

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm....I wonder why it would have gone over your head....

;)

I'll rewatch with you! And we can watch My Name is Earl, too. :)

[identity profile] roxyoi301.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I should get back around 9pm tonight, so we can watch our stuff then

Okay, but like I totally slept through the whole night last night. I completely zonked out after i got in bed

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I'm glad you got some sleep, then. At least you're less of a zombie today?

[identity profile] roxyoi301.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm still pretty much a zombie today...just for a different reason.

I have consumed only 5 bagels and who knows how many glasses of water today ;/

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Was it worth it, at least, to get that sleep? ;)

I certainly had a good time last night, if nothing else. Heh.

Also, sorry about that phone call, I figured if nothing else it would cheer you up a little. :)

[identity profile] singingrl.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved the episode, I don't get the meh reaction to it by most people on my flist, I thought it was awesome...it was the first episode where I really felt like the show was back in full form :) The writing was on and the dialogue was snapping, Veronica was at M I which makes me way too happy and the cinematography was really pretty again...but office scenes tend to have that effect on the show *g*

I cracked up at TD's delivery too...although I still hate Duncan...luckily, all signs point to their relationship being doomed, since he was clearly lying to her when she called before her surprise visit and the MOTW mirrored their relationship a bit too much lol. I'm unspoiled, so I could be wrong, but man it just looks like they're so headed for disaster *sigh* Which is good, because the L/V shipper in me wants her back with Logan...and this comment's getting way too long and I liked the seduction scene...especially when Wallace showed up at the door, that cracked me up :)

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was pretty decent, but this could be because I had such disdain for the second episode the two since have seemed better than they maybe are. I was entertained anyway, even if I wasn't knocked over the head with VM glee. Plus it was definitely nice to see the MI set again. :)

I don't hate Duncan, but I'm pretty indifferent to him on the whole. I like scenes without him better than scenes with him, but I don't, like, groan every time he comes on screen, and I definitely have done that with characters I hated in other fandoms. That comment of his was pretty hilarious, though. Of course Duncan doesn't know how to do anything with computers. What a doofus.

I liked the seduction scene the first time through, but after knowing the resolution, I just sort of fast-forwarded through it on a rewatch, which made me think it was too long. Wallace was pretty hilarious throughout, though, so that at least made it worth it. :)

You know, I don't hate Duncan either, because really, he's such a non-entity. But whenever I think of him I start getting resentful because he could be so much better as a character and that starts to piss me off. So it's not Duncan himself, but rather the idea of him that gets me riled up. Funny how that works...

As for the confrontation (which I'm sure is coming), I think there has to be a straw that breaks the camel's back, because if left to their own devices those two will just let things fester, fester, fester...

As for the rest of the post, thanks for the earring catch. Like I said, I never would have noticed it unless you had posted about it.

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel kind of the same way about Duncan, in that I feel like if someone much more compelling was playing him I'd like him a whole hell of a lot better. Or at least be interested in what his character was doing.

At first I was a little worried that there wouldn't be a confrontation, that the relationship would just peter out at some point, but now I think you're right and that last straw is the only way it will end at this point, because Veronica won't end it otherwise, and we know Duncan's more inclined to just stop talking to her, and normal or not this Veronica won't stand for that again. But Veronica's frustration is really starting to seep through, and that's the sign to me that once that Thing comes, the relationship is doomed.

Also, the earring thing bugged me, and I was in the shower this morning thinking about it and I was actually late to work this morning because I had to check the last episode to see what Lamb said about where they found it. I don't get why it's important or why the cops took it. I'm trying to figure out whether it's just a weird plot device or whether the fact that it doesn't make any sense means something.

I would never really be interested in V/D, because it's such a classic case of everything that I find boring about a relationship, but Duncan himself? He could be such a fascinating character. Like really tortured and interesting and tragic. And he just...isn't. And I just can't think of any other reason for that than TD.

I was actually late to work this morning because I had to check the last episode
Just in case you weren't aware of it, [livejournal.com profile] picklepocket has transcripts of all the episodes. It's a sticky post at the top of her journal. That's how I checked what happened when Lamb interrogated Veronica.

[identity profile] evergleam83.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly it. Ever since A Trip to the Dentist I've felt like Duncan should be an interesting character to watch, and it's so disappointing that he's got all these things he should be dealing with, and because of Teddy's limited abilities, none of that comes across at all.

Also, thanks for the link to the transcripts. I knew they were out there somewhere, but I didn't know who it was that had them.
