It's 2005. I suppose you knew that already.

I just don't have anything to say. I watched Garden State tonight, finally, and all the deleted scenes. Tomorrow night is reserved for commentaries and the rest of the special features.

I love that movie. And need to own a Simon and Garfunkel album.

Megan was here for a few days. I love my MeganBean. She is still the coolest. We did lots of hanging out and watching movies and talkingtalkingtalking and it was fun. She's going to Arizona for a few weeks for her field work term, and then she'll be back at the end of January. Just in time to hang out with me more! Also, her brother made us Japanese food on Thursday night, and it was good. Except she accidently ate squid, and I laughed at her for she is a vegetarian and I am evil. ;)

And I guess that's all.

ETA: No, not all. I have three weeks to myself, and I need some books to read. I've been in kind of a book rut for a few months, I've started about five books and not finished any of them. So rec me some of your favorite books, preferably ones I'll be able to finish by the end of January. Please?

Anything by Neil Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, or Terry Pratchett.

Or House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski.

I have--gasp--never read Neil Gaiman, though I keep meaning to, and I have The Colour of Magic next to my bed. I keep meaning to read and I keep getting sidetracked and not finishing the first few pages. I'll give it another try?

Also, I've tried reading House of Leaves before, and that requires much more of a commitment than I'm willing to make in the next few weeks. :P I would like to read it at some point, though.

Thanks for the suggestions. :)

That's a crime, it is. Smoke and Mirrors is a good collection of Gaiman's short stories.

And...yeah. House of Leaves is not a quick read. It's good, mind you, very good. But you want to be able to spend plenty of time with it.

Actually, today I came across Good Omens and I checked it out. I think it's time to do the whole killing of two birds with one stone thing.

I still want to read House of Leaves, I checked it out once and didn't have time to really get into it. It'll probably be a summer thing.

I will totally loan you Mark's copy of Enchantment by Orson Scott Card, if you want it.

Because what's not to love about a book with a linguistics geek main character andincludes the line "in a French or English retelling of the tale, the prince and princess would live happily ever after, but only a fool would want to live through the Russian version of any fairy tale."

I think you should lend it to me since you keep talking about lending it to me and I keep not having it in my hands to read. ;)

I miss you! When are you coming back?

There is an off-chance Mark might want to read it, he does get contrary like that.

I miss you too, and I'm coming back late saturday night.

In the same vein as the comment below, read The Nanny Diaries, it's fun and takes like ten minutes.

I just looked it up and our library has a Coelho book but not that one. I will have to look for it on my next B&N/Borders run. ;)

But thank you.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This first United States paperback of By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept comes after huge worldwide sales of the novel of faith, romance, miracles, and the importance of following the heart's true path. The inspirational tale follows Pilar, a young woman from the Spanish countryside who, sparked by the teachings of a now-mysterious man she has known and loved since childhood, leaves her graduate studies and embarks on a spiritual pilgrimage through the Pyrenees Mountains and reevaluates her life and her future. Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho, author of the international bestseller The Alchemist, is considered to be one of the most widely-read Latin American writers in the world.

Actually, I may have found The Alchemist through another one of the libraries, but I'll still file this one away as well.

My friends have good taste in literature, it make my little English major heart happy. ;)

I have one!!!

You must read "Still Life With Woodpecker" by Tom Robbins. I never had a favorite book until I read this, and it totally goes against my favorite genre (which is historical, gender-confused, tragic whore). It's good postmodernism. Even better, it's about redheads. And there's still sex, and lots of it.

If you should feel up for an adventure, you should brave the 10 ft journey to my room and get it from my bookshelf.

Oh-- and quick question...

Are you still working on the mighty m.s. paint pictures, or is that over with? (b/c if you have the time I'd still like one :-) )

If my interests are too dirty, obscure, and/or not inspirational, I'll understand.
