I've been doing a lot of thinking and reflecting on what exactly it was that happened this year, because I guess that's what I'm supposed to be doing right now. But, instead of writing about all that, I figured I'd do what I usually do and write something else entirely. I'm nothing if not consistent. :p
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
I bought a car. I got a full time job. I moved out on my own and became as financially independent as I think I'm ever going to be.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't tend to make them, as I would most definitely break them if I did. :p
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My dad's got a new kid.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
We were never close, but I knew him for ten years.
5. What countries did you visit?
Hahahaha. Hah.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Peace of mind. The ability to handle my responsibilities without letting them overwhelm me. Some semblance of happiness. Comfort. Love.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 18 is probably the only specific date I'll remember from this year.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
That whole moving and job thing, I suppose.
9. What was your biggest failure?
My last semester of college was one of the worst failures of my life.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Does sadness and depression count? If not, then no. Healthy as a horse. :p
11. What was the best money you spent?
Ugh. None of it was well spent if you ask me. :p
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Anyone and everyone who didn't disown me by the end of Spring semester.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
That one person who did disown me. Not so much appalled, though, just depressed. Now I just sort of wish we could still be friends.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Gas. Various bills. Movies.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I was really excited to see Serenity in May. Not really, really, really excited. But excited.
16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Hmmm. Probably "Quiet" by Rachael Yamagata. Yeah.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? sadder
ii. thinner or fatter? Alas, I've probably gained weight since last year.
iii. richer or poorer? Technically richer, but it really doesn't feel like it.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I'd spent more time with the people who mattered before I left college. I still see them now, most of them, but it's not the same, and we'll never be able to spend time together like that again. I'd love another spontaneous game of Trivial Pursuit (from 1981) at 2am. :p
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I wish there'd been less crying. And moping. And wallowing. And feeling numb. And not caring. And not doing what I was supposed to be doing.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I'm sort of upset that we aren't going to my Jewish uncle's house this year. Instead, we're having it at my other uncle's house, which will be weird since it will be the first time in four years, the first time we've held it there since my aunt died. Not sure I'm looking forward to it, is all I'm saying. But I'll also visit my stepfather's sister, and someone on my dad's side of the family on Christmas Eve, whoever decides to hold it this year. There will also be a night with my grandparents. The holiday season is far too hectic.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
With Boston. That's about it.
23. How many one-night stands?
Hi, issues.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Veronica Mars, Scrubs, The West Wing.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate anyone, not really, but there are few people I liked last year that I don't really like too much anymore. Which is sad, but true.
26. What was the best book you read?
Is it sad that nothing is standing out in my mind? I need to get back to reading more good books.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Well, Fiona Apple wasn't a "discovery," but her new album is probably what I listened to the most over the course of this year.
28. What did you want and get?
Do I really have to go back to the car/job/apartment thing? I guess so, since it's the only thing I accomplished this year. :p
29. What did you want and not get?
Many, many things.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Crash was definitely the best movie I saw this year. It just kind of sticks with you, you know?
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 22 this year. What did I do? I don't remember. Oh! A bunch of us went out for drinks, and then we went back to the apartment and played Clue. Which I lost. Not the most thrilling birthday, but just spending time with my friends is more fun than most other things anyway.
32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
One thing? Really, the crappiness of my whole year stems back to two things, one specific, and one not so much. Neither thing I have much control over, so I'm not sure this question is quite answerable. Cryptic, me? Nah.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Started off sloppy, much like any good college student, but since I've started working it's slightly more professional. But only slightly. :p
34. What kept you sane?
My friends. Really. I'm not quite sure where I'd be if it weren't for them keeping me grounded, or wallowing with me, or watching hours of television with me, or joking around with me, or calling my mother for me when I was crying too much to do it myself. Racheal especially put up with a lot of crap from me this year, and yet she still loves me, and it's stuff like that that's kept me sane. So, mushymushyIloveyouguys.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
This year was all about Ewan McGregor for me. Oh, Ewan.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I think I got burned out on caring about political issues after the election. Well, there was that and my crippling inability to care about anything. So.
37. Who did you miss?
Megan. I still miss her terribly. Stupid Africa.
38. Who was/were the best new person/people you met?
I've met a bunch of people through my jobs, but none of them are OMGSOGREAT or anything. I like most of them, though, so that's a plus.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
Life sucks and then you die.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
and it'll be just as quiet
when i leave
as it was when i first got here
i don't expect anything
i don't expect anything
i don't expect anything
to change
