aftertherockets: (to see the truth (saava))

I had a loverly weekend at home. Rac and Megan and Stew all went with me to my uncle's for BBQ and fireworks, though they weren't quite as spectacular as I'd hoped. But friends and family and blowing up a chunk of the country--what's better? ;)

That is not, however, what this post is about.

I've managed to watch all of S1 Farscape, save for the episode that wouldn't play. I thought now would be as good a time as any to gush over it, seeing as how I'm about to start S2. ;)

In the very beginning, I had a hard time suspending my disbelief. I like how they got the language thing out of the way right from the beginning, but the fact that everyone in the universe breathes oxygen? Nuh uh. But every time I start to think like that I have to remember that my favorite show ever features a 240+ year old vampire as the lead character, and then I'm usually okay with it. ;)

The first episode I really really liked was Back and Back and Back to the Future. Time jumpy stuff makes my head hurt, but this actually worked for me. Plus the alien chick was incredibly creepy, and that was pretty cool. When John said something about becoming unstuck in time, though, I knew I was gonna like this show. (Then of course in the next episode with Aeryn's woody comment. Any shred of resistence was gone right then. :P)

After that it was probably DNA Mad Scientist that I really liked. The episodes in between were good, but they kind of run together for me. This one, however, kind of really upset me. When Zhaan and D'Argo cut off Pilot's arm, I gasped such that I'm glad my roommate was not here at the time. :P At first I thought it was entirely out of character for both of them, but as the episode (and obvioulsy the season) wore on, it became more believeable for me. And with the layers! Like ogres and onions! Plus Aeryn and the Pilot DNA melding thing was really freakish, to say the least, and I loved how that gave her and Pilot a special kind of relationship for the rest of the season, especially when Moya's baby was born.

I really liked They've Got a Secret and Rhapsody in Blue because of the insight into D'Argo's and Zhaan's characters we got. The Flax was great, because the kissage was hot (HOT), and D'Argo's face when he walked in on them was priceless. I obviously loved A Human Reaction, the way that John pretty accurately pictured what it would be like to return home, the fact that Aeryn and D'Argo and the rest came after him, and mostly for the scene in the beginning when he was leaving--it made me cry cause I'm a big wussy baby.

I loved Through the Looking Glass, and I don't think I could tell you why. It was just cool. Well, I suppose the combination of the ship splitting up and John once again saving the day (which I think is hilarious, the one who knows the least about the universe always ends up saving everyone else. Hee!), and the family aspect probably did it. All my favorite movies and television shows have this created family between a group of people that are misfits or excluded from society or whatever for whatever reason. And the fact that they really show this family being forged and staying together and laughing together makes me like it all the more.

I pretty much liked every episode after that a whole lot (except for John's really terrible British accent. Why did he feel the need to do that? Because all the Peacekeepers sound British to him, did he think he'd be more believeable with a British accent? It probably just made him feel cool. :P). Rygel's betrayel, and Chiana cooking for everyone, and the suicide mission, and finding out that Zhaan is a plant. :P Good stuff.

As far as characters, I'm having a really hard time deciding who I like the best, cause I think they're all cool. Chiana has taken the longest to grow on me, but I think I like her a lot now. Zhaan is very obviously butt-kicking cool, and John appeals to the part of me that enjoys a good fun-loving Southern boy. And while I know in the near future the John and Aeryn relationship will become my favorite, as I'm a sucker for a tragic/angsty love story, I think in this season what I liked the most was the transformation in D'Argo and his relationship with Aeryn. I loved that he came to care so much for his shipmates, that at one point it was him convincing Zhaan to go looking for Chrichton, and that he and Aeryn had such an understanding of each other, as warriors but also as friends.

Also? In the last two or three episodes I really liked Crais. Most of the season I didn't really care about him or his stupid vendetta against Chrichton other than as a means to infuse drama into certain situations, but in the last few episodes where he was beaten and broken and admitting to Chrichton how wrong he'd been? Awesome. And then with the stealing of Moya's baby. I'm excited to see where this goes, because I'd just assumed he'd be dead by the end of the season.

So, with all of that said, I'm going to settle in with the season two episodes [livejournal.com profile] saava sent that I was able to retrieve this weekend and see how that whole cliffhanger thing turns out. ;) (And is it just me or did D'Argo's face change?)

And finally? New icon. ;)
