Okay, it is one thing to have to go to work on the day after Christmas, but it another thing entirely to actually have a bunch of stuff to do. :p

Random poll! )

I tried my luck at downloading the Doctor Who Christmas special, but no dice. I'll try again tonight, and otherwise I guess I'll just have to wait it out. Boooo. I'm working tonight, hopefully hanging out with Aster tomorrow night, and my sister is supposed to come visit Thursday night. And then! Three whole blissful days off from Saturday-Monday. Still don't have any New Year's plans to speak of, but hopefully something will crop up. If nothing else, there are always fireworks and creepy mimes down by the docks.

Also! Happy birthday, [ profile] _jems_! I hope you're having fun!

Bullet points are easier:

++ I have a dentist appointment in 45 minutes. I haven't been in about a year and I'm slightly worried that my teeth are falling out. Routine cleanings never end well for me.

++ Ashley and I hosted a dinner party Sunday night and got to play at being grownups for awhile and it was a lot of fun. There was thai food and wine and conversation and even a tickle fight. So, maybe not that grown up. Lots of fun while it lasted, though, I'm hoping we can do it again soon.

++ Actually, this weekend was pretty awesome, considering I worked for the majority of it. Racheal came to visit, and we watched TV and caught up on the last five months of our lives and went out for food and drinks at the redneck bar and it was generally a good time. I'm amazed at the amount of hangout time I packed into two and a half days considering I worked three full shifts. :p

++ Studio 60 )

++ We put up our Christmas tree last night. I'm so not into Christmas this year at all, but there's always something a little soothing about hanging up all those familiar ornaments. Other than that, I'm ready for January 1 now, thanks.

I didn't think I really had anything to say about The Office, but I've been reading other people's reactions and I figured I'd chime in, too.

The Coup )

Other things:
1. I really like Beck's new album, but I think I like the design-your-own-liner-notes-on-Beck's-new-album even better.

2. I've been watching Supernatural again because the Winchester brothers are very pretty when they angst, and because it's fun harassing Ashley about evil clowns.

3. My boss had a nice chat with me today at lunch about how I close myself off in groups of people and I need to stop doing that and get some self-confidence already. Now, if only he'd tell me how to do that, I'd be in business. :p

4. Ashley and I got tickets to see Death Cab in November! We have failed to do this every single time they've ever come around before, so yay for that.

5. I think the weather might be out to ruin my DC plans for tomorrow. I still really want to go, but I'm not sure how interested I am in walking around the mall in the cold wind and rain. Plus, my favorite museum is closed for renovations for the next two years or something. Which is LAME, by the way.

6. I'm so sick of working every single Friday night. I would much rather see The Departed tonight than work.

Happy birthday, [ profile] madmoisellestar!

In other news,

1. I'm way more tired than I have any right to be this morning,

2. the weather is nice enough today that we have the front door wide open, which only makes me want to be outside instead of stuck in here,

3. and I'm still depressed about Doctor Who. You know how when you're right in the thick of an obsession with a show or a 'ship and every song you hear is about that thing? Yeah, I've currently appropriated three or four Decemberists songs just for the Doctor and Rose. So. Yeah. I wish I'd watched this with everyone else now, if only so I'd have someone to be depressed with at the moment. :p

It's Wednesday, which means I have to work tonight, which sucks, but it also means I'll have Project Runway waiting for me when I get home, which doesn't suck. My mantra this week is just-make-it-to-Saturday. I just had a blissful day of sitting around in my pjs doing nothing, but I already feel like I need another break. I think maybe I just need a real change, a break in routine. I hate routine. I think really I should quit Barnes & Noble, I've been there way too long as it is. Although, I don't know if just changing second jobs is really going to help much at all.

Dear Barnes & Noble customers:

I swear to god, it won't be long now before I snap, and it will be all your fault. I realize that when you come to the counter for a cup of coffee or a 500-calorie slice of cheesecake, I'm wearing a stupid uniform and a green apron, and therefore I'm not an actual person to you, but you know what? I'm preparing your food, so you should probably think about that before treating me like crap. That said, a few things to keep in mind:

1. That trash you leave all over the tables in the dining room? A real, live, honest-to-god breathing human being has to clean up. Do you leave empty cups and sucked-on straws and used napkins all over your tables at home? Or worse, on top of the trash can? Seriously, folks, there are three clearly labeled trash receptacles. Don't put trash on top of them, or near them, or around them, put trash in them. And please, for the love of all that is good and sacred in this world, stop wadding up napkins inside your ceramic coffee mugs. I've gotta fish those things out and it's gross.

2. I realize that there is a giant Starbucks logo on the menu board. But I promise you, we are not a Starbucks. No, I'm not lying to you. Look at the logo a little closer, see how it says "Proudly serving Starbucks Coffee"? That's because we serve Starbucks coffee, much like we serve pastries from the Cheesecake Factory. So, no, we won't take your Starbucks giftcard, no matter how much you look around at all the stacks and stacks and stacks of books asking "But isn't this a Starbucks?"

3. That whole joke about just wanting a regular, normal, plain old cup of coffee was never funny. And people stopped caring in 1995. Of course you can get a regular cup of coffee, so stop smirking like you just said something hilarious, you smug, self-righteous jerk.

4. If I ever run into those six teenagers who came in the store last night and ordered 7 frappacinos and an iced latte five minutes before close, it's possible no one will ever hear from me again, as I will be serving a life sentence at a prison that probably doesn't house a hot Wentworth Miller look-a-like.

5. When I hand you your coffee and say the words "tall, skim, decaf latte" and then you ask me if it's decaf, don't be surprised if I'm no longer Polite and Friendly Barista. Honestly, it's taking every ounce of my willpower not to smack you across the mouth.

6. Just so you know, if I were in charge of the world, no one would ever be allowed to step foot in a retail store until they'd worked in a retail store themselves. So consider yourselves lucky that my plans for world domination thus far have failed.

These are only a few things to maybe keep in mind while shopping at the Barnes & Noble cafe. Not all of you suck, and I do appreciate the apologetic note the last of the seven last-minute customers left for me yesterday, but please. Next time you're ordering a cup of coffee, stop and think, and remember to treat other human beings with the same respect you expect us to treat you with, because your server may just be teetering on the edge of sanity as it is.

I was going to write about Wednesday's VM, but as it turns out, I didn't have much nice to say, and not really much that hasn't been already said.

I'll stick with the less harsh stuff. )

Working this weekend. Not tonight, luckily, but tomorrow and Sunday. Next weekend, however, I have two glorious days off. I can't wait. Racheal is coming down, Chris is coming over, and other people possibly and it will be wonderful. I say this now, however. If next weekend turns into a "thing," I swear to the gods above I'm not speaking to you people anymore. ;) So, drama-free is the only way to go, got it? I am in some serious need of a stressless couple of days off.
aftertherockets: (vm - stolen moments)
Oh VM day. How you mock me so. I have to work next Wednesday night. :(

I feel like massive crud today. I've been fighing off a cold for weeks, it feels like. I'm still not sleeping very well. I'm hungry and grumpy and sick of taking all the stupid jokes at my expense from my boss. He's just kidding, I get it. Doesn't mean I can take it with a big bright smile first thing in the morning.

I watched Ahoy Mateys as I was falling asleep last night. It's possible that's my favorite episode from this season thus far. Logan's pretty. That's about as much as my brain's gonna give you right now. Oh. That, and Silly spec. )

It's rainy and yucky out, too. And I got splashed by a car driving through a puddle as I was walking into the office. So, you know, fun day. Who's spamming today? Someone, please? Entertain me?
aftertherockets: (vm - arms! arms of logan!)
I am tired and stressed and headache-y like WOAH. There is a growing pile of things to do on my desk--I swear it just grows on its own, like a fungus-y work fungus thing. Everyone in my office left for lunch, so I'm giving myself some lunch time to not do anything. So there.

Sometimes, when I feel crappy, I like to make random lists. I do! Don't look at me like that. Today's random list is all about Logan Echolls.

CUT! )

Um? Entertain me? Give me home remedies for awful headaches that won't go away because you haven't had a decent healthy meal or a full night's sleep in weeks? Call out sick for me tonight? Make your own random lists?

Or, you know, you guys could all go off and do your Friday-not-posting thing and not even give me anything to read. That'd work, too. :p
