HI OHMYGOSH I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN NEARLY TWO MONTHS WHAAAT??

Life is alternately hectic and boring. Things of import:

1. I AM GOING TO LONDON IN A LITTLE MORE THAN TWO WEEKS. It came together sort of quickly, although by now I've know about it for awhile. Basically, my job sucks and my life sucks and it is all very awful, except for when it isn't, like now. I think my boss feels extra guilty about the fact that I've worked here for four years and never called in sick and never taken more than three days off at a time and never actually gone on vacation and all that. He's been trying to send me on vacation for about a year and a half, and I successfully fended him off because, whatever, I don't like it when people do things for me. But when he offered to send me to London, I pretty much couldn't pass that up.

So! I'll be staying with [livejournal.com profile] _titania_ from September 14-20. I have spent much of the last week trying to decide how best to fill up those six days. Thoughts? Suggestions? (EEEEEEEEEEEEE SO EXCITED!)

2. I've been intermittently training for the 3 Day walk. I really need to step it up a bit, because pretty much everyone I'll be with will be ridiculously disappointed in me if I don't do the entire 60 miles. I'm starting to get really geared up for it, though. Check out my website here!

3. Please to be checking out this post by [livejournal.com profile] nightchik as soon as you humanly can. I think I could TRY to love that Serenity vid more, but I don't think it would be possible.

4. SUMMER IS NEARLY OVER YOU GUYS. My roommate has already started back to school with her little kiddies. We finished our runs of both Doctor Who and Farscape (I've never re-watched the entire series start-to-finish since the first time I saw it, was fun! Esp with someone who'd never seen it before!), and I am SO READY for fall TV.

I have to go to Baltimore and file some tax stuff now, otherwise there would be more, I'M SURE. Hi! How are youuuuuuu??

Ooh!!! Yay!!! LONDON!!! I love London!!! Umm... I've only done the really touristy things. The first time I was there, it was for like 3 days, so I pretty much just saw things like Buckingham Palace, some museums, and such. The next two times were with my high school in France, so I was like a tour guide. Leading around 20 some French teenagers is exhausting!! Hmm... but I definitely recommend seeing a play. I love the Natural History Museum (public museums are free!!!), because I am 5 and love seeing dinosaur bones. Covent Garden is cool.

I definitely need to get back there without a bunch of French people at my side. Especially ones that are convinced that being American is the same things as being British. LOL. Just because I speak English...

Two of my favorite touristy things that I did in London: visiting the British library (and seeing the handwritten manuscripts and sheet music of people like Mozart and Virginia Woolf); taking a guided tour of Westminster Abbey. Also, those big red tourist buses may be cheesy but they are a great way to see A LOT of a city, especially one as big as London.

Good call on the British Library. That is definitely something I want to see. I'm also definitely planning on the bus tour.

OMG LONDON! I concur with everyone else: do the touristy things that might seem cheesey but are actually all pretty cool because everything in London is pretty cool! the only thing that I thought I paid too much for and wasn't that interesting was the Tower of London. and if you're on a budget, the museums are free and AMAZING, the parks are gorgeous, and you can walk by Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey for free. also: PUBS.

PUBS. I have been promised pubs. I'm very excited. ;)

Good to know on Tower of London. I may just look at it on the bus tour and that'll be enough. :) YAY!

I second the Tower of London. Not as cool as I anticipated it would be.

I honestly can't remember what I did in London. :-p I was there... 9 years ago? Maybe? I think I liked whatever museums I saw. And I liked going to the theatre district. And I went to some outdoor marketplace that had a doc martens factory, which was pretty awesome.

Sorry this isn't very helpful.

Seconding the British Museum (and museums in general - the V&A also has some good stuff) and big red tourist bus, particularly if you're lucky enough to get a good guide on it. Walking along the Thames is nice, and I recommend wandering Hyde Park / Kensington Gardens (effectively one park), which is ginormous and lovely.

Oh, believe me, the first thing Rac says we're doing is double decker bus tour. Well, this will be the first thing after I shout to the whole of London: "Look, y'all! It's a giant ferris wheel!" :D

Yeah, I figured that one was kind of a given. At this rate she should probably consider looking into getting an annual pass to the buses or something.
